Celebrity life is always looked at like being perfect, with no problems rocking this status, but once again celebs shatter this misconception as actress Olivia Munn recently confessed to suffering from an impulse control disorder called trichotillomania, a condition which prevents her from abstaining the urge of pulling out her eyelashes.
The 32 year old actress shocked her fans with the news, as the model always looks picture perfect and no sign of missing eyelashes was spotted by the media, but apparently this is due to false eyelashes as the actress and model revealed to DailyMail that:
“I don’t bite my nails, but I rip out my eyelashes. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s really annoying. Every time I run out of the house, I have to stop and pick up a whole set of fake eyelashes.”
Trichotillomania is an impulse control disorder which affects people of various ages and which can be triggered by depression or stress. This condition can cause people to pull the hairs for hours at a time, and can cause numerous problems including permanent hair loss or infections. This is a condition that can have a high impact on self-esteem, but apparently Olivia has managed to push through the fear of being shun by others for her disorder as she went public with it. Although she says that having trichotillomania is very annoying, she doesn’t consider herself a weak person.
‘I don’t think anyone would describe me as weak, but I don’t want people to be mean to me’, the actress said, and apparently this fear for being made fun of can be traced back to her childhood years as Olivia confessed that:
“As an Air Force kid, I moved around a lot when I was younger and no one was nice to the new kid. So there is always this feeling that someone will make fun of me.”
Despite the fact she’s got quite a successful career, the actress says that she also often suffers from anxiety, which apparently determined Olivia to fear having and raising a child. The actress, who plays the role of a desperate woman that would do almost anything to get pregnant in her newest film titled ‘The Babymaker’, revealed that:
“I definitely don’t have a baby urge right now. Having a baby is like losing your virginity; once you do it, you can’t take it back. That baby is forever. It’s not that I’m too busy with my career or anything, but I have this huge fear of something happening to a child of mine. What if I’m not a good parent and my child turns out to be a jerk? Like I need more anxiety in my life.”
Olivia Munn is the first celebrity who admits suffering from trichotillomania, so hopefully she’ll be able to help others suffering from this disorder to surpass their fear of being socially shun because of their uncontrollable hair pulling act.
