Salma Hayek is the latest star to share private aspects of her professional and personal life with the well known magazine Redbook. The actress does a great job highlighting some of the aspects that help her boost her mood when needed. One of these things is physical activity: “It’s the hardest thing to do, but exercise — even if it’s just a brisk walk. I never used to, but it can really give you an instant lift. And try to eat something healthy too.”

Smart healthy moves are not the only ones that the actress recommends for a mood uplift: “Get a pedicure, and if that isn’t working, go get a wax job! Sometimes a new lipstick just helps. Beauty products always cheer me up and give me hope. If it makes you feel pretty, why not?”

As far as her fashion style is concerned, the star explains how sometimes looking elegant requires less effort than creating a casual chic outfit: “I was having dinner with my friend Demi — yes, that one — and she said, ‘Oh, my God! Every time I see you, you are so put together!’ And I told her it’s a lot easier to grab a fabulous little dress than to put together a whole casual outfit with jeans, a top, the right jacket, and great shoes. You slip on a dress and you can’t go wrong.”

Music can also have a similarly beneficial effect:”Put together a new playlist and listen to it while you’re having dinner. Music makes you want to move and dance and laugh. It can be magical.” Along with music, dancing is another activity with mood-boosting benefits: “If you’re feeling blue, lock yourself in a room, stand in front of a mirror, and dance — and laugh at yourself and be sexy. Dance the silliest and ugliest you’ve ever danced. Make fun of yourself and try to recover your sense of humor. I do that with Valentina, especially if she’s pouting, and it always works.”

Her daughter is understandably one of the most important persons in her life, so she is quite protective of her. However, the ‘Puss in Boots’ role was one of the roles she accepted specifically for her: “I liked the idea of doing a movie that Valentina could see, since there are many I’ve done that she is too young to see, and a few I’d probably never want her to. I’m a watchdog when it comes to what she can and cannot see.”

Salma tries hard to keep a balance between work and family, valuing the important aspects of both. About the important benefits of work, she says financial independence is extremely important: ‘I work hard, I make my own living and I love it. I like having financial independence. I don’t ever want to have to depend on anyone completely. But when I have troubles sometimes, it’s nice to have someone there to help.’

Apparently, in her personal life she doesn’t hold on to the idea that things get less exciting after a certain age:”I’ll tell you, there is nothing better in life than being a late bloomer. I believe that success can happen at any time and at any age. You can have a spiritual awakening and discover a news side of you at any age. And best of all, love can happen at any age. Life can just start to get exciting when you’re in your 40s and 50s. You have to believe that.”
