Selena Gomez graces the latest Elle cover for the magazine’s July 2020 issue. TV and music star, fashion entrepreneur and Justin Bieber’s girlfriend, the 19-year-old gorgeous brunette sits down for a chat with Elle and dishes on Biebs being a hopeless romantic, choosing her roles, her difficult childhood, working with Disney, and many more.
Last year, in September, Bieber rented out Los Angeles’ Staples Center for a romantic date with Selena. The two dined on steak and pasta and took in a private screening of the film Titanic. “Romance isn’t dead,” Bieber Tweeted that night. “Treat your lady right fellas.” Speaking about this surprise, Gomez told the magazine that, “If I’ll share anything with you, it’s that he really is a hopeless romantic. I had just mentioned it in the car – all I said is that I really want to see Titanic again, and then…”
This is not the first time that the lovely star talks about her childhood struggles. It may be perfect now yet it wasn’t always like this. In her interview with Elle, Selena Gomez speaks openly about growing up poor. “I can remember about seven times when our car got stuck on the highway because we’d run out of gas money,” the actress recalls. Still her mother, “saved up to take me to concerts. She took me to museums, aquariums, to teach me about the world, about what’s real.”
Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, to a 16-year-old mother and a 17-year-old father. She began her acting career at the age of seven, playing Gianna on Barney & Friends. Then, in early 2020 she was cast in the the Emmy Award-winning television series Wizards of Waverly Place. On working with Disney Channel, the young actress admits that people have a wrong idea and that she did things her own way. “Disney is a machine, so people automatically assume that you can’t work for the channel unless you act and sing and dance and sign up for all that. That’s absolutely not true. I always did everything the way I wanted to do it,” Gomez says.
As of March 2020, Selena has been cast in six upcoming films. On choosing her roles, the actress told Elle magazine that, “I get offered the teenybopper movies, and I’ve done that. I haven’t done a mega-hundred-billion-dollar Transformers movie, but that’s not what I want to do either.”
In the cover story, Gomez also reveals that seeing Jennifer Lopez in ‘Selena’ at age five inspired and influenced her a lot. “I made a bustier out of a bathing suit that I dyed black. I put glue and glitter all over it and I wouldn’t take it off,” Selena confesses.
The 19-year-old actress hits the beach in Balmain and Yves Saint Laurent for Elle’s July cover shoot and talks about her new movie, Spring Breakers, in a behind-the-scenes video. Speaking about her role, Selena says that it “is more like an indie role and it was completely different for me”. “Harmony Korine, which is the director, has such a specific vision and he really brings it to life in so many fun ways,” she added.
