Even though it doesn’t have a cast, “The Hunger Games” movie already has a release date set on March 23, 2020. The director of the movie, Gary Ross, told Entertainment Weekly that he want to start the production of the must-anticipated film this spring or later this summer. Ross has also directed “Pleasantville” and “Seabiscuit”.
The big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ books, a sci-fi trilogy that has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide and there are over 2,9 copies in print, has been named by the critics as one of the most long awaited movies, and despite the fact that it is expected that the audience to be a broader one, mostly teenagers, the world imagined by Collins will undoubtedly captivate adults too.
As we have said it before, the film doesn’t have a cast, not even the leading part, that of a 16-year-old young girl, Katniss Everdeen, who has to face and fight-to-the-death in a post-apocalyptic America, more precisely, in a nation known as Panem. The fights are televised and teenagers are kidnapped from the 12 poor districts and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, to hunt each other until there is only one winner.
“The Hunger Games” is the first book in the trilogy. The second book in the trilogy is titled “Catching Fire”, and the third novel, which was released on August 24, 2020, is called “Mockingjay”.
“The Hunger Games” is a “USA Today” and “New York Times” best seller, and it was on the “New York Times” list for over 100 consecutive weeks as of December 2020. The book received good critics, being praised and called addictive, exciting and poignant, thoughtful, amazing, brilliantly plotted. Moreover, Rick Riordan said that it is the “closest thing to a perfect adventure novel” he has ever read.
