Learn more about the celebrities who avoid social media, and find out what keeps them away. From Jennifer Aniston and Bradley Cooper to younger stars like Keira Knightley and Daniel Radcliffe, here are the celebrities who just don’t do social media.
Jennifer Aniston
After declaring herself “computer illiterate”, “Cake” star Jennifer Aniston confirmed again and again that she wants to stay away from social media for many reasons.
“It’s not for me. I’d be opening myself up too much. I don’t want to sound like a complete innocent – I’ve looked at things, of course. But it’s such spewing. If I look at it, I’ll be affected. It’s like dancing with the devil,” Aniston told the New York Times.
Bradley Cooper
The “American Sniper” star took the most retweeted selfie of all time, but he’s still one of the celebrities who avoid social media. He’s staying away from it because he wants his fans to focus on his acting, without details about his personal like that would get in the way.
Scarlett Johansson
Staying away from social media is also the norm for Scarlett Johansson. “I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than have to continuously share details of my everyday life. I’m always surprised that certain actors have Twitter accounts. I guess they use it in a way that works for them. But I’d rather that people had less access to my personal life. If I could keep it that way, I’d be a happy lady,” she told Interview magazine.

Benedict Cumberbatch
Many celebrities who avoid social media have serious reasons for it, but the “Sherlock” star claims that he just couldn’t edit himself in tweet form. “Tweeting is about being pithy. I think tweeting would take so many hours of editing I’d be lost for doing my job,” the actor explained at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.
Daniel Radcliffe
The “Harry Potter” star already had millions of fans since he was 12, so he prefers to keep his life private. “I don’t have Twitter and I don’t have Facebook and I think that makes things a lot easier. Because if you go on Twitter and tell everybody what you’re doing moment to moment and then claim you want a private life, then no one is going to take that request seriously,” Radcliffe told Sky News.
Jennifer Lawrence
Even though she has a Facebook page, “The Hunger Games” actress doesn’t seem to be involved in her very limited online presence. She’s one of the celebrities who avoid social media, and she even told David Letterman that having to write about her life on Twitter would feel like a punishment.
Keira Knightley
After claiming that social media can e “dehumanizing”, Keira Knightley did try it out herself, just to confirm her original opinion. The British actress joined Twitter in 2020 under a different name, but only stuck around for… 12 hours before deleting her account. “It made me feel a little bit like being in a school playground and not being popular and standing on the sidelines kind of going, ‘Argh’,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Some celebrities who avoid social media are really bad at technology altogether. Angelina Jolie has claimed that she doesn’t even know how to turn on a computer, while her husband is equally uninterested in social media, so Brangelina is staying away from Twitter and Instagram.
Martin Freeman
“The Hobbit” and “Sherlock” star Martin Freeman also prefers to keep his distance from social media. “I’m not a huge fan of it. I don’t think technological advances like that are exactly progress really,”he told Radio Times, adding that “I don’t want my mug plastered all over the internet, thank you very much.”
