Celebrities carefully craft their image, but sometimes all it takes to take them down a notch is a silly Photoshop mistake. From retouching disasters that are intentional to mistakes that went unnoticed, here are the worst celebrity Photohop fails.
Whether the images appeared in magazines or in ad campaigns, these retouching mistakes make us wonder if some magazines simply let their interns mess with Photoshop without ever checking the disastrous results.
Madonna’s Collapsed Skull
The April 2020 cover of Out magazine had people asking what was Madonna thinking… with her tiny, tiny brain. Definitely one of the worst celebrity Photoshop fails, the image shows the Queen of Pop as the proud owner of the world’s smallest head.
When a celebrity’s head is covering your magazine title, the way to go would be lowering it, not collapsing their skull.

One of the most scandalous retouching stories comes from the August 1989 cover of TV Guide. In order to portray Oprah standing on a pile of money, the editor simply decided to put her head on an old picture of singer and actress Ann Margret. “The OC” star Mischa Barton has dabbled in modeling with both television commercials and print ads, but perhaps her most famous image is the major Photoshop fail that left her without a belly button.
Adam Levine’s Missing Torso
Missing body parts are among the worst celebrity Photoshop fails, and “The Voice” judge Adam Levine also fell victim to retouching that went too far. In the November 2020 issue of Vogue Russia, the singer and TV personality posed along with his girlfriend, Anne Vyalitsyna, but part of his torso somehow ended up missing from the final product.

One of the worst celebrity Photoshop fails shows Courtney Cox’s hands looking very unnatural in a Pantene ad. While magazines have strict deadlines that sometimes lead to missing important details in pictures, there’s no excuse for a print ad to look this bad.

Few other celebrities have had to face Beyoncé’s issues with skin color, and the singer can’t be blamed for any of them. The most well known example is the issue with her Russian magazine covers. While Glamour went with less retouching, Joy magazine decided that a lighter skinned Beyoncé is the better one.
The same thing happened in the UK, when Marie Claire magazine messed with the skin and hair color of an image that had already been a Vogue cover.
Mariah Carey’s Hands
While the singer’s hands are perfectly proportionate to her body, you wouldn’t know that just by seeing the cover of her 2020 single “Obsessed”. In one of the worst celebrity Photoshop fails, Mariah’s right hand is small and her pinky looks misshapen, while her left is a few sizes too big.
