The Diane von Furstenberg pre-fall 2020 collection was inspired by two iconic cities: Venice and New York. At a first glance it can be hard to see exactly how these cities have influenced the new collection titled Grand Canal, however, for the renowned designer the idea that both of them are centers of art, culture and commerce seems to have been a good enough starting point. The new Diane von Furstenberg pre-fall 2020 collection seems an interesting extension of the label’s resort 2020 and spring 2020 lines, though this time around the animal prints are not as used.
The similarities can be noticed mostly pattern-wise. The label focuses once again on abstract motifs and geometric patterns to add interest to the newest looks. The designer stated that in the new line “geometric meets organic” and it is certainly true if we consider the stunning patterns which adorn simple dresses with a strong modern flair and clean combos. Speaking of dresses, 2020 marks a milestone for the brand – it’s the 40th anniversary of the iconic wrap dress. Though the label has only included a few wrap dresses in the new Diane von Furstenberg pre-fall 2020 line, the LACMA will host an exhibition called the “Journey of a Dress” which will feature vintage and contemporary designs in honor of the important event.
It’s interesting to see how the new creations embody both the “less is more” philosophy with more conspicuous elements like mixed prints and color blocking as it shows that the designer has considered the needs of different types of customers. On the one hand, the line features a multitude of options for those who are looking for a statement piece that will inevitably attract attention. On the other hand, the line also brings simple, colorful dresses with a modern flair, designs which seem almost minimalist when compared to the line’s most memorable looks.
The new Diane von Furstenberg pre-fall 2020 collection also brings an interesting set of accessories into the spotlight. The label opts mostly for monochrome shoes and handbags in order to balance the looks. When it comes to jewelry, however, the label still favors edgy bracelets over simpler alternatives, as these have a stronger impact and bring a distinguishable trendy vibe to the new looks.
