Red
Tangerine and red shared the spotlight at New York Fashion Week and in London, but Italian designers definitely showed they prefer fiery red. If you’re bored of fall neutrals, then bright red hues are the perfect way to go bold without looking back.
Red ruled the runways, making a splash in collections from Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, and Emporio Armani.
‘70s Vibes
The retro feel of this season couldn’t be absent from the big Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 trends. From fringe to flared pants and deep necklines, the ‘70s were definitely a strong presence on the runways. Bottega Veneta, Etro, Philosophy, and Blumarine showed that retro ideas can become one of the defining trends for Fall 2020.
Pleats
Big or small, pleats added volume to plenty of pieces on the runways at Milan Fashion Week. Equally effective in any fabric, from softer ones like satin to leather and wool, pleats decorated plenty of dresses, along with skirts and blouses. Some of the biggest fans of pleats this season were Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Cristiano Burani, and Giorgio Armani.
Victorian-Inspired Blouses
Collars tied with bows were also one of the big Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 trends. Showing a romantic touch, tops with off-skew bows were seen in many collections on the runway. They showed up in New York and at London Fashion Week as well, but they were truly embraced by Italian designers, from Alberta Ferretti and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini to Bottega Veneta and Emilio Pucci.
Oversized Belts
Worn on everything from jumpsuits and vests to dresses and coats, big belts were one of the defining trends in Milan. Thick belts provided a cinched waist that perfectly balanced looser designs in collections from Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Marni, and Roberto Cavalli. Suits
Whether you prefer the strong lines of a menswear inspired suit or a more feminine approach, you’ll have plenty of looks to choose from, since suits are one of the biggest Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 trends. While Bottega Veneta, Gucci and Fay went for a more gender-bending look, Prada, Jil Sander and Missoni campaigned for a more girly interpretation, including suits with culottes.
Velvet
Already a big trend in London, velvet was also very visible in Milan, lending a fluid look to many gorgeous looks. It’s definitely a great way to bring some dimension to your Fall 2020 looks, and collections from Antonio Marras, Luisa Beccaria, Emilio Pucci, and Costume National highlighted its potential.
Floor-Length Skirts
Metallic skirts in different lengths popped up on the runways in many collections, but one of the most important Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 trends is the floor-length skirt. From gorgeous prints to solid colors in bright hues, long skirts were a big part of collections from Roberto Cavalli, Fausto Puglisi, Leitmotiv, and Blugirl.
Patchwork
If you can’t make up your mind what textures to wear this fall, you’ll be happy to know that many designers decided to combine as many as possible. Whether you stick to colorblocking with similar textures or want to try something more daring, designs from Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Etra, and Fendi proved that patchwork is definitely worth a try.
Fur Coats and Shoes
The Yeti coats from Angelo Marani, MSGM and Phillipp Plein and fur shoes from Gucci, Fendi and Aigner proved that fur also belongs amongst the big Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 trends. Fur shoes may not be very practical, but they’re the best way to inject some drama into your look.
