Silver Gowns
Sparkling on the red carpet, many celebrities chose to wear silver colored gowns, adding a dramatic metallic touch to the ceremony. Lady Gaga wore an Azzedine Alaia gown, accessorized with red leather elbow-length gloves.
Felicity Jones impressed in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen silver gown, while Laura Dern went for a pewter and silver creation from Alberta Ferretti.
Red Dresses
Following NYFW, red became one of biggest Oscars 2020 red carpet trends. “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson wore a Saint Laurent red column gown with silver embellishments. Rosamund Pike opted for a Givenchy Couture gown with intricate embroidery. Beyoncé’s younger sister Solange also gave the red carpet a run for its money in a Christian Siriano Fall 2020 ensemble.
Off-Shoulder Gowns
While the strapless look is always big for awards ceremonies, off-shoulder dresses made an even bigger impact this year at the 87th Academy Awards. Reese Withespoon rocked the look in a black and white Tom Ford gown. Viola Davis chose a similar neckline wearing a pearl-hued Zac Posen Resort 2020 creation. Zendaya impressed in a Vivienne Westwood off-shoulder gown.
Intricate Embellishments
Before taking home her first Academy Award, Julianne Moore showcased one of the most impressive Oscars 2020 red carpet trends in a custom Chanel dress created with over 80,000 hand-painted paillettes. Lupita Nyong’o chose a pearl-encrusted Calvin Klein dress, while Jennifer Aniston opted for an Atelier Versace Spring 2020 with delicate beading.

White and Off White

Marion Cotillard wore a dramatic Christian Dior 2020 couture creation, with delicate perforated latticework. Singer Faith Hill also wore an ivory J Mendel gown, and “Selma” actress Carmen Ejogo chose a sparkling sequin gown from Houghton.
High Slit Gowns
The high slit also turned out to be one of the big Oscars 2020 red carpet trends. Jessica Chastain wore a navy Givenchy gown, while Emma Stone opted for Elie Saab Couture with an open back. Turning the high slit into an even more dramatic detail was Chrissy Teigen, who chose a pale blue creation from the Zuhair Murad Spring 2020 Couture collection.
Plunging Necklines
Jennifer Lopez chose a nude Elie Saab Fall 2020 Couture gown with layers of tulle and delicate beading. Margot Robbie went for black in a Saint Laurent gown, while Jenna Dewan-Tatum sparkled in a white Zuhair Murad Spring 2020 Couture gown with a plunging neckline.
Floral Detailing
Delicate flowers also found a place among the Oscars 2020 red carpet trends. Keira Knightley went bohemian in Valentino Spring 2020 Couture with floral embroidery. Joining Adam Samberg on the red carpet, Joanna Newsom wore a white Honor dress with floral embellishments on the bodice. E! host Giuliana Rancic matched the red carpet but still stood out thanks to the 3D flower detailing on her Mireille Dagher dress.
Exciting Tuxedos
The men also brought a lot of color to the Academy Awards red carpet this year. Jared Leto wore a powder blue tuxedo, while Best Actor winner Eddie Redmayne opted for a darker blue. “Selma” star David Oyelowo wore an attention-grabbing maroon tuxedo.

Even though she also joined in on one of the big Oscars 2020 red carpet trends, Scarlett Johansson’s necklace was actually part of her custom Atelier Versace gown.
