Overalls trend means no rules when it comes to cut. Lengths can differ from very short to long, while on the upper part we can talk about overalls with or without braces, one shoulder or short-sleeved overalls. For spring/summer 2020 overalls can be considered as being one of the key elements.
Casual. Ralph Lauren proposed denim overalls and though inspired by American farmers the designer reinterprets them in a casual direction. Matched with feminine blouses, blazers, fine sandals, scarves and basques or hats, these denim overalls or the ones made from delicate fabrics imitating denim represent the new urban-chic.
The designer paired the denim overalls with gold peep-toe heels. For a casual look, DKNY and Marc by Marc Jacobs proposed light, practical overalls that can perfectly camouflage pear-shaped figures. Another casual approach is that of Lacoste with simple cuts and accessorized overalls perfect for a hot summer day.
Elegant. Even if it’s hard to believe, overalls can be elegant too. For spring/summer 2020, a more classic and elegant interpretation we can find at Hermes. Due to the neutral colors used, these overalls can be worn at the office or as a cocktail outfit. Remaining in the cocktail area, Luca Luca presented the white sleeveless overall, with fine prints, nicely accessorized with shoes and colorful beads. We find elegant overalls at Lanvin who gave them a luxurious air using drapings, sequins and accessories such as chunky jewelry, precious belts and long evening gloves. A similar approach we can find at Carolina Herrera where sleeveless and accessorized overalls become a real seduction weapon.
Hippie. Light, breezy and floral fabrics are the key words for a hippie look. This season overalls can also get a hippie appearance just like in the Etro and Richard Chai collections. The overalls in the Etro collection are characterized by fluidity and rich floral prints, that bring on the catwalks the freedom and delicacy of the ’70s. Also, in the Luca Luca collection hippie elements were emphasized by gentle wavy hairstyles.
Minimalist. Besides prints and details, there were designers who preferred a minimalist approach with clean cuts and neutral colors. A simple and feminine cut can be found at Stella McCartney, while at Givenchy monochrome overalls with simple cuts have a slightly androgynous look. You can wear these overalls with oversized jewelry, clutches in contrasting colors and high heeled sandals or shoes. This is one of the most versatile trend as it can be accessorized and changed in order to create different outfits. Badgley Mischka is another designer that chose minimalism for his overalls.
