New season, new endorsement deals for some of the hottest celebrities of the moment. This time it’s Anne Hathaway‘s turn to amaze us with her first campaign for Tod’s new Signature handbag collection. The “Dark Knight Rises” actress brings class and glamor to the campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in London.
Derek Lam, the company’s creative director explains what makes the actress the perfect choice for the brand: “Anne Hathaway is the perfect representative of Tod’s new Signature Collection. What makes this collaboration with Anne so perfect is that not only is she a young actress with accomplished roles to her credit, she is also one to watch for her creative choices. She generates excitement based on the quality of her work, modern beauty and intelligence.”
According to him, Anne exudes “traditional elegance and beauty with a lively, modern spirit, a perfect fit with Tod’s, which prides itself on bringing together the traditional craftsmanship of Italian artisans with the best in contemporary design.”
Anne also expressed her long term appreciation for the brand’s products: “I have been a longtime fan of Tod’s and was very excited to be a part of exploring a new side of their identity with the launch of their Signature Collection. These are bags that age with you and never let you down … As a result, they don’t grow older, they only grow better, just like a woman.”
Della Valle, chairman and chief executive officer of Tod’s SpA, told WWD that the brand has been making sustained efforts to create details that will make the bags recognizable and hard to replicate: “We’ve been working on this project for several years, to select the best materials and isolate a recognizable hide that will be representative of the brand’. He also added that the bags have “distinctive reliefs’ that sets them apart form others.
The bags advertised by Anne Hathaway are certainly an investment as these classy vividly colored handbags retail for more than $1000. More specifically, a clutch retails at $1,165, while a shopping bag is priced at $2,165. The advertisements for the line will be officially released in October when the line will also be available in stores worldwide.
