The Atelier Versace spring 2020 couture collection presented during Paris Fashion Week Haute-Couture Spring/Summer 2020 on January 19 was inspired by Grace Jones’ style, but the renowned designer took the modern women’s needs into account first and foremost: “A contemporary goddess: Power, determination, strength, and glamour — that’s what I was thinking about. And how this woman can show her soft side, being a Versace, because Versace is always very spectacular,” she told WWD.
As always, the Atelier Versace spring 2020 couture creations combined the label’s trademark accents, like daring cutouts or bold sheer panels, with some of the coolest new season style trends. The label’s high slit dresses, for instance, had a more fluid line to match the sportswear influences that have taken over many spring 2020 lines. Another way in which the designer tried to make her new creations appealing for modern women who thrive in the spotlight was to take a unique approach when it came to embellishments, which were made to look like skin tattoos for a stronger visual impact.
Without a doubt the most clear nod to Grace Jones’ style was the hood detail which was the leitmotif of the new Atelier Versace spring 2020 couture collection. The element added a fierce vibe to the new looks, especially when adorned with studs and sequins. The color palette, which revolved around attention grabbing tones such as cobalt blue, chartreuse, gold, pewter, lavender, champagne, orange or pale green, was another element that made the new looks stand out as were the occasional fur pieces which highlighted the opulent flair of the new looks.
The daring ensembles from the new Atelier Versace couture spring 2020 line could easily appeal to performers like Beyonce, Rihanna and of course, Lady Gaga, who is currently the face of the label, which is why we suspect we’ll be seeing plenty of the new line’s pieces on the red carpet in the upcoming months, especially since the award season is currently in full swing.
