Chanel bags have always been a must on every fashionista’s lust-list. The famous fashion house has always created ladylike and sophisticated designs, therefore their creations became some of the most sought after bags. When saying Chanel bag we instantly think of the already iconic “flap” handbag 2.55 that was created by Coco Chanel in 1955 and which was inspired by her childhood and adult life.
However, times have changed and now, the legendary house introduces a new collection of handbags that brings a fresh, slightly edgy approach, yet maintaining the same degree of sophistication and class. Called ‘Boy Chanel’ the new bag is not meant for men. Characterized by a chic androgynous flair, the collection draws its inspiration from the hunting cartridge style that Coco Chanel herself used to embrace.
Karl Lagerfeld explains the idea behind this unique and exclusive line. “Chanel used men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel,” the designer says.
The collection is versatile and functional as the pieces are made so they can be worn both as a shoulder or crossbody bag. The ‘Boy Chanel’ comes in three different sizes. However, all the bags are practical, the smallest functioning as a purse, while the largest one as a tote. One cannot miss the signature chain strap, which is thicker this time. The collection is bewitching and irresistible due to the simplicity of the design and the clarity and purity of the lines. Flat red, deep black, intense grey, lead green, and clean ivory are the main colors used for the bags which are all in glazed calfskin.
First spotted on the Chanel Fall/Winter 2020-2020 show, ‘Boy Chanel’ is set to be released in September with prices ranging from $2500 to $4300. The collection is indeed rather different from what we are used to see at Chanel, yet we cannot deny the flawless, polished allure of these exclusive handbags.
