Until John Galliano’s successor will be named, it was Bill Gaytten’s mission to create the Christian Dior spring 2020 collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week. The result? The Musée Rodin was invaded by ladylike, refined silhouettes and a dreamy, vintage glam vibe. Famous models Karolina Kurkova and Miranda Kerr walked down the runway and modeled for the legendary French house.
It seems that Gaytten wanted to play it safe and reinterpreted some of the already familiar Dior designs like the round-shouldered, peplum New Look Bar jacket, the black and white full skirts, or the cocktail and evening dresses. The collection was described as reworking “the codes that define the house to the present, a modern silhouette inspired by the iconic Basque of the Veste Bar Dior. Elegant proportions are revisited and refined to create a new contemporary luxury.” The story line was captivating from the very first look till the final dress.
Sophistication and femininity were the words of the game. There was a parade of delicate evening gowns, but also impeccable daytime, casual looks. And everything was beautifully embellished by demure details and embroideries, while the ruling colors were light and soft. There were also a few splashes of red and graphic black-and-white check motifs. The fabrics used (silk, organza, tulle and lace) oozed maximum delicacy and muliebrity and made the collection incredibly desirable.
