Concept Korea returns to New York Fashion Week! Concept Korea is a collaborative project whose main purpose is to make Korean Culture known overseas through fashion. It is organized by the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, the Daegu Metropolitan City, the Korea Creative Content Agency and Korea Research Institute of Fashion Industry.
Concept Korea began in the spring of 2020, and this fall/winter 2020 season marks the organization’s seventh time showing at New York Fashion Week. The initiative has been extremely efficient as it helped local designers in their efforts to break into the US fashion market.
Each of the five invited designers, Kathleen Kye, Choi Bo Ko, Lie Sang-bong, Kim Hong Bum and Son Jung Wan, will aim to bring the global audience to Korean culture by presenting designs that are uniquely Korean. Every single collection is special, the designers creating their pieces based on one given theme. The fall 2020 theme is ‘Rhythm of Korea’.
“The runways will be accompanied by music and lighting inspired by Korea’s tradition. It will be a mix of ‘gukak,’ or traditional Korean music, and fashion, creating a synergy effect for a sophisticated staging with a Korean atmosphere,” Ha Hyun-jin, a ministry official said in a press release.
The theme for the spring 2020 season was “Five Directional Colors”, while for fall 2020 the theme was “Ink Wash Painting,” which is an East Indian art technique.
As we have already mentioned, Concept Korea’s New York Fashion Week 2020 show is to be held under the theme ‘Rhythm of Korea’. The five collections will be KYE by Kathleen Hanhee Kye, CHOIBOKO by Choi Bo Ko, CRES. E DIM. by Hongbum Kim, LIE SANG BONG by Lie Sang Bong, and SON JUNG WAN by Son Jung Wan. The designers will showcase their creations on February 7 at The Stage, Lincoln Center.
