Hats, caps and variations on this theme are must-haves of the season. And not just because they’re practical on those bad hair days, by hiding with elegance hair disasters, but also are essential to create flawless and stylish outfits. When wearing a hat, this becomes the main point of the outfit, therefore choose bold and original pieces that make you stand out. In order to avoid too much going on at the outfit, match hats with simple and sophisticated items. This season designers suggest playful chromatics (Dior) or crocheted beanies (see Nicole Miller). Rock & Republic goes masculine, while Diane von Furstenberg is reinventing retro.

Rihanna – The pop princess may have a good excuse, and that is – she wears this fetish outfit on stage – on this field “rules” are more permissive. The focus on the face is over exaggerated: the high cap with shiny brim and large golden earrings – there’s too much going on.
Lindsay Lohan – The elegant hat makes uninspired contrast with the ’80s inspired dress, flattens her face and hairstyle. If you want to wear a hat and your hair’s long, just pull it back into a low ponytail or a bun, to emphasize your features.
Milla Jovovich – Milla’s laid-back style gives a vintage feel. The dress looks great and also the gavroche-cap, but the whole look is disputable: the cap and the pointy pumps look too modern for the classic cap. If you want to copy her look, pay attention to the details!
Penelope Cruz – Her look is neither bold, nor unusual – but it’s the proper masculine inspired outfit, that enhances her femininity. The shape of the fedora is great and complements her oval face shape. If you want to get one, you can easily play with different colors.
