H&M seems to be an interminable source when it comes to innovative, special collections. This time, the famous Swedish retailer has teamed up with Trish Summerville, the designer behind the costumes of David Fincher’s version of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’. The result is a 30-piece line inspired by the lead character Lisbeth Salander played by actress Rooney Mara.

“We put a lot of aged-in washes and finishes, which goes along the lines of the Salander character. In the film, her clothes are quite extreme. They’re really worn down, they’re dirty. So for us, it was taking that kind of concept and giving it more of a realistic fashion feel,” Summerville said.

H&M creative director Donald Schneider explained the idea behind this collaboration in a video announcing the range. “We sat together and said, ‘Why don’t we do something? We are Swedish, this movie has a lot to do with Sweden, which is unusual for Hollywood,” he stated.

Powerful and tough, with a dark urban feel, the collection features torn jeans, biker leather jackets and leather pants, loose hoodies, but also roughed-up leather boots, platform wedges, and accessories like backpacks, knitted snoods and tribal-style earrings. “Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result! My goal is for women to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style,” Trish Summerville says.

The new collection will debut exclusively at Colette in Paris on November 28. On December 14, the range will be available in 180 H&M stores worldwide and online.
