LFW Fall 2020 Trends: Cool Outwear – Statement Coats

LFW Fall 2020 Trends: Cool Outwear – Statement Coats

The London Fashion Week fall 2020 edition might be over soon, but we have a feeling that the stunning collections we’ve spotted will have a lasting impact on the new season trends. Though it is usually shorter than the Fashion Week editions held in the other style capitals, London Fashion Week never fails to bring thought-provoking alternatives that fascinate. Though eclectic patterns are always a hit, this time it was the multitude of interesting outwear choices that proved memorable. If you’re thinking about investing in a statement coat for the cold months of 2020, these lines can be a great source of inspiration on what you might want to look for:

LFW Fall 2020: Burberry Fall 2020 RTW Collection

The Burberry Prorsum fall 2020 collection had a strong artsy vibe. Creative director and brand CEO, Christopher Bailey, cited the Bloomsbury set’s country retreat at Charleston in East Sussex, London, as the source of inspiration for the new line.

The designer brought a multitude of hand-painted ponchos, stunning trench coats, dreamy silk dresses, blanket-inspired wool wraps in rich, natural autumnal tones of burnt amber, taupe, olive, camel, black currant or dark blue, to name just a few. The same maximalist perspective was applied to accessories, which complemented the new looks perfectly even though each element of the new outfits had a strong visual impact on its own. The Topshop Unique fall 2020 collection was also filled with head-turning outwear options with an eclectic vibe. Coziness was a top concern if we are to judge by the multitude of puffer jackets, belted tailored coats, faux fur gilets or the attention grabbing patchwork fur coat the brand has brought into the spotlight. Rather than opting for an easily identifiable theme, the label displayed a diverse set of options, some more subdued than others, designs that are sure to appeal to different style personalities. LFW Fall 2020: Issa Fall 2020 RTW Collection

The Issa fall 2020 show shared a couple of interesting similarities with the Burberry show, the most notable ones being that the label also brought blanket-inspired shawls and lovely silk dresses. However, the new Issa line focused on boxier pieces featuring plenty of interesting elements such as kimono sleeves. Pattern-wise, the label chose abstract elements that seemed to be inspired by broken mosaics, zig zag patterns and even chic floral elements that added a romantic twist to the new line. In the Vivienne Westwood Red Label fall 2020 show, the take on outwear proved to be a more traditional one compared to many of the other brands. The renowned designer’s thoughts were directed towards the “posh, privileged, looked-after, very English woman,” so a degree of traditionalism was definitely required to adequately represent the theme. Oversized tweed coats, masculine suits, leather and fur coats were among the main elements that defined the new collection. See the complete Vivienne Westwood Red Label fall 2020 collection!

LFW Fall 2020: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Fall 2020 RTW Collection

While the Preen spring 2020 collection was dedicated to well defined proportions and precise cuts, the opposite seems to be true for the label’s new offerings. This time Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi brought an interesting mix of edgy and utilitarian vibes. The utilitarian approach was spotted mostly when it came to the outwear choices where brightly colored long coats stole the spotlight. The edgy elements were spotted mostly pattern-wise, where Darth Vader motifs made a surprise appearance. See the full Preen by Thornton Bregazzi fall 2020 collection!
