Though NYFW is generally associated with carefree effortlessly chic ensembles with a sporty casual flair, there are also plenty of designers who are committed to bringing feminine ensembles with an elegant twist into the spotlight, especially since for many labels elegance and femininity are part of the brand’s aesthetic DNA. Those looking for amazing options with a sophisticated spin should definitely take a closer look at the new options to see what they should be looking for in the cold months of 2020 and the first months of 2020:
NYFW 2020: Donna Karan Fall 2020 RTW Collection
When it comes to characterizing Donna Karan’s fall 2020 collection, two main attributes come to mind: fierce and elegant. The new line marked the label’s 30th anniversary collection, so it was an opportunity for the designer to look back and see how far she’s come, without necessarily trying to do a retrospective with her latest designs.
“I wanted to show that after 30 years I think we stand for something that is absolutely, iconically Donna Karan. I wanted it to be a reflection of the past, and the present coming into the future. I wanted it to be about art, the city, the body, movement, the strength of tailoring, evening,” she said after the show. The show brought a multitude of gorgeous military-inspired jackets, stunning black dresses, stunning bodysuits, diaphanous skirts and sultry evening gowns. For the new season, the designer exercised restraint when it came to embellishments and the color palette, but excelled at bringing amazing floor length gowns with strong architectural proportions for evening, designs which have become the brand’s signature. NYFW 2020: Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW Collection
The designer’s thoughts for the Carolina Herrera fall 2020 collection were directed towards the future. She didn’t try to find new ways to reinvent the past but rather took the initiative of exploring softer construction techniques and experimenting with new volumes. These ideas were translated into a series of interesting ensembles with a feminine twist. The designer opted for rounded shoulders, hand-painted geometric motifs and crystal appliques and embroideries, and a relatively quiet color palette with only a few accent tones which made the new options feel youthful and fresh. NYFW 2020: Jill Stuart Fall 2020 RTW Collection
The Jill Stuart fall 2020 collection felt like a continuation of her spring 2020 line. If back then, the designer thought about rock stars’ girlfriend, for the fall/winter 2020 season she maintained the focus on much of the same inspirations: an unpredictable girl with a lot of attitude and with an irregular beauty, that picks her clothes instinctively. The line, described by the designer as ‘boyishly poetic’ brought a slew of flirty yet edgy ensembles in a variety of luxe fabrics: leather, mohair, crystal-studded velvet, suede, fur and creamy satin. Among the most memorable looks from the new line were party dresses which at times featured baroque-inspired motifs. See the complete Jill Stuart fall 2020 collection!
