It’s impossible not to get caught by the urgent craving to read a book when seeing a super-stylish Olympia Le-Tan clutch. Yes, those absolutely gorgeous bags, replicas of some of the most famous tomes ever written. “My friends had all these career plans and I had no idea. I just wanted to have kids and get married and do nothing. Well, I didn’t find him. But I would have been a good housewife; I like cooking, tidying, sewing,” the designer said in an interview with Flare Canada.
Still, the 35-year-old Paris-based designer, daughter of renowned illustrator Pierre Le-Tan, managed to make herself known creating uber-fashionable book minaudières that can spice up any outfit. Yes, Olympia Le-Tan discovered the perfect way to combine her love for reading with her passion for bags. And the result was more than spectacular.
On the idea behind her bag collection, she told Vault Magazine that, “Well, I grew up in a house where there were lots of books. My dad [illustrator Pierre Le-Tan] has a big collection of old ones with nice covers. I started collecting them when I was a teenager. The covers inspired me. And I learned how to do embroidery from my grandmother. I just thought they were a good base to develop.”
‘Le Rouge et Le Noir’, ‘The Last Tycoon’, ‘Il Decamerone’, ‘Lolita’, ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ are some of the Le-Tan’s literature-inspired bags. Well, in order to accompany those beautiful minaudières, Olympia decided to release a ready-to-wear collection. Her debut line was inspired by Le-Tan’s childhood and featured schoolgirl skirts, college-striped sweaters, and cardigans with Liberty-print collars.
For her spring 2020 collection, Olympia Le-Tan accompanied by a live performance from Ronnie Spector of ’60s hit group The Ronettes. So, now we hardly wait to see what the famous designer has prepared for her fall 2020 collection that will be showcased at Paris Fashion Week on February 28.
