The Paris Fashion Week fall 2020 edition brought many thought provoking ideas into the spotlight, especially as labels known for their potential to set the tone when it comes to the new season trends presented their newest creations for the cold months ahead. Though the sources of inspiration were quite varied, it seems like slouchy shapes, edgy yet practical pieces with a sporty masculine flair and rock ‘n’ roll accents were a few concepts that fueled the designers’ creativity. Here are some of the most interesting illustrations of these influences:
PFW Fall 2020: Kenzo Fall 2020 RTW Collection
The Kenzo fall 2020 collection was inspired by “the various beautiful, idiosyncratic and elliptical characters” director David Lynch based his movies on.
Designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon brought one of the most maximalist lines of this edition of the Paris Fashion Week, working with a plethora of bold elements that instantly demanded attention. Contrasting volumes, exaggerated shapes, bold vibrant tones and eclectic patterns captured the audience’s attention from the very first moment. Slouchy pants and flirty skirts with bold peplum details, sharply tailored coats and vibrantly colored accessories were among the standouts of the new line. PFW Fall 2020: Isabel Marant Fall 2020 RTW Collection
The Isabel Marant fall 2020 collection had a fairly strong tomboyish flair. The designer explored military vibes, grunge accents and modern urban looks in her new line, always keeping in mind the practical needs the cold season impose. She worked with a well defined color palette of beige, army green, black, white and ivory and focused on bringing a variety of slouchy pants, baggy sweaters, short skirts with occasional sequined accents, oversized cardigans, chic leather pants and jackets with exaggerated shoulders. PFW Fall 2020: Saint Laurent Fall 2020 RTW Collection
Hedi Slimane embraced many style influences from the sixties for the new Saint Laurent fall 2020 collection. The rock chick aesthetic was reflected beautifully through a series of cool sequin adorned A-line skirts and shift dresses, plaid overcoats and capes, edgy leather jackets, glittery knee high boots and Mary Jane pumps. Among the other accessories that made an appearance in the new line were wide brim hats, which added a fun flair to the looks, and oversized silver earrings. Beauty-wise there was one striking element that stood out: heavy kohl-lined eyes. See more from the Saint Laurent fall 2020 collection!
PFW Fall 2020: Emanuel Ungaro Fall 2020 RTW Collection
For the Emanuel Ungaro fall 2020 collection, designer Fausto Puglisi adopted a much more pragmatic and simple approach than he did for his own fall 2020 collection. Even so, the desire for simplicity wasn’t translated into minimalistic, utilitarian designs. On the contrary, he embraced diversity and worked with several different elements, bringing ruffles and bold sheer panels and rose motifs. He also combined dainty lace details with bold leather accents for a modern feminine allure with cool rock chic notes, and brought menswear-inspired oversized coats and several sporty wool sweaters in the spotlight. PFW Fall 2020: Stella McCartney Fall 2020 RTW Collection
A big focus on pragmatism and function could also be spotted in the Stella McCartney fall 2020 collection, which had an easily perceivable sporty allure. The designer focused on slouchy pieces, oversized rounded shoulder coats and masculine blazers, fun jumpsuits, dresses with colorful fringe motifs and masculine inspired flatforms which not only complemented the label’s masculine inspired looks but also highlighted the practical allure the designer based her new line on.
