After months of speculation regarding the possible designer to lead the Christian Dior brand to the successes it experienced with John Galliano which even revolved around great names in the industry such as Marc Jacobs, it seems that the luxury label has finally made a decision regarding the issue. The designer, who is replacing John Galliano who was fired last year due to anti-Semitic slurs has received the official title of artistic director of women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessory collections and is the sixth couturier of the brand.

The brand stated in a press release that Simons “one of today’s greatest talents” whose mission is to “propel [Dior’s] iconic style into the 21st century.”

The flattering comments were reciprocated by the new brand designer who shared his concept of the brand and its founder who was“the most inspiring couturier. Around the globe, the name Dior symbolizes the ultimate in elegance and refinement. It is with the utmost respect for its tremendous history, its unparalleled knowledge and craftsmanship that I am joining the magnificent house of Dior”.

Simons has become well known by working for the Jil Sander in 2020 and it was also approached by labels such as YSL. Still, the Belgian designer knew it was in him to move from minimalist designs and purism concepts to something more complex and expressed his desires in an interview for WWD.com back in 2020: “I knew in the long run I couldn’t only think about minimalism and purism,” he said.
