Hooray! New collaboration in town! Ah, we just love a good sartorial partnership that materializes into a never-seen-before collection. And we’re pretty sure that this one will be a super-cool one too. Well, this time, River Island teams up with Georgia Hardinge for a special spring/summer 2020 line inspired by the work of Swiss surrealist painter and sculptor, H.R. Giger.
The result? Absolutely fabulous! Georgia has designed a range of clothing and accessories featuring bespoke 2D prints which give the impression of 3D sculptures.
“Working with a really strong team of people at River Island has been a great experience; it’s so nice to have lots of people to make my designs a reality. It is great to be a part of something so new and I definitely think this is the way forward for the high street, making a luxury product become accessible to all,” the young British designer explained.
So, what should we expect to see in this one-of-a-kind collection? Well, there will be statement-making goodies such as dresses, maxi skirts and matching tops characterized by dramatic depth and movement. With a predominantly monochromatic color palette, Georgia’s collection for River Island focuses on her trademark unique whimsical prints and distinctive fit.
But wait a minute! Did we understand it well? Luxurious and affordable? Now this is what we call real fashion. And we’re absolutely thrilled! If we got your attention, you should know that the 14-piece collection will be available to buy in selected River Island stores and online in March. Still, the line is set to be launched via a short film created and directed by film maker Alex Turvey at the Fash/On Film event at London Fashion Week in February. Fash/On Film is an initiative created with the British Fashion Council and River Island meant to support and develop film within the fashion industry.
Okay, so until we’ll be able to take a peek at Georgia’s creations for River Island and actually buy some of those pieces, you should know that Georgia Hardinge made her debut at London Fashion Week for spring/summer 2020 and her unique designs are worn by celebrities like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Florence Welch.
“It is such an amazing feeling to see an artist that you respect so much wearing your designs. It definitely feels like a reward after working so hard on each collection. It was especially nice that Beyoncé bought a pair of leggings from one of our stockists and I had no idea until I saw the pictures,” Georgia confessed.
