The Chanel Resort 2020 Collection

The Chanel Resort 2020 Collection

With the Chanel Resort 2020 collection, Karl Lagerfeld takes things at Chanel’s one step further. A rather minimalist collection created by simply playing with the white and the black – this is Chanel’s vision for this summer.

Surely, Lagerfeld has its own way of surprising everybody in the fashion industry. For the resort collection, Karl Lagerfeld chose as main colors black and white, and the most vivid colors were pale blue, pink and yellow.

His show was held at the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach, Miami, where models walked on water on a curvilinear runway. The 74 outfits presented in this collection easily mixed, in a very natural way, rock ‘n’ roll with seventies swing and high glamour.

The Chanel Resort 2020 Collection

Chanel Resort 2020 collection is retro, chic and mysterious, a little bit masculine (actually, an androgyne attitude), as menswear has heavily inspired many collections throughout time. When the masculine meets the feminine, strange and beautiful things happen – beaded dresses with clear or smoky plastic insets, sleek tuxedos, jeans inspired from the 70s style, haute hippie headbands, silver sequined blazers and black jeans.

Lagerfeld transgressed history and translated it into his own style, in an extremely elegant vision. He played with proportion and detail – “It’s all about proportions, cuts, volumes” Lagerfeld said pre-show, continuing: “There is not one line that is taken all through the collection. For cruise, you don’t do that. There are many looks and an attitude.”

The Chanel Resort 2020 collection was inspired – as Karl Lagerfeld said – by Rolling Stones Brian Jones, found dead at the bottom of his pool in 1969. In a commemorative way, the show ended with synchronized swimmers from the U.S. Olympic team jumping into the water, culminating in the lineup forming the Chanel logo.
