The Valentino spring 2020 couture collection was inspired by opera fist and foremost, but also brought many interesting elements from nature. Valentino creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, adopted a romantic perspective once more, transporting the audience into a magical world dominated by sophistication, elegance and glamour for a few minutes. The duo eschewed temporary fads in favor of elegant ensembles with a whimsical touch.

Perhaps the most obvious example of the designers’ source of inspiration was a delicate tulle dress featuring musical notes. However, among the pieces that truly proved that the label is taking the ‘haute couture’ notion seriously was a colorful cape adorned with butterflies inspired by Madame Butterfly, which required 550 hours of work for application alone and princess-worthy gowns made of 5.000 meters of silver & gold thread, which required no less than 1.800 hours of work. The fab Valentino spring 2020 couture collection also brought many looks which seemed inspired by ballerinas, with feather-adorned tutu dresses being the most clear examples.

Symbols from the natural world were also beautifully depicted in a significant number of stunning Valentino couture spring 2020 creations. The label brought many amazing floor-length dresses with exotic animal motifs which seemed made to meet the needs of the fashion house’s most daring customers. Perhaps the most surprising dresses in the section was the final look the fashion house unveiled, an amazing satin dress depicting a stunning scene inspired by the exotic African jungle, which took 2.000 hours to create.

Though jungle-inspired looks were the ones that attracted the most attention, Valentino’s couture spring 2020 collection also brought simpler, more classic gowns that would cater to the needs of the more conservative clients who are looking for feminine ensembles with a classic twist as well as more loose-fitting options with an interesting oriental vibe.
