Meditation is a practice that rejuvenates your body and rejoices your mind. It is based on silence, simplicity and stillness. Just like yoga and other such ancient yogic practices meditation too requires focus, a peaceful environment and diligent practice or study of its techniques. There are various methods of meditating too, though all of them involve clearing your mind of all thought and simply concentrating on repeating a mantra or prayer word continuously.
Chakra meditation focuses on opening various chakras of your body. It was believed by ancient yogis that our bodies are made up of different chakras. Each chakra is located in a specific part of our body and has a specific function. Chakra meditation uses different ‘mudras’ or folding of your hands to open and strengthen these chakras one by one. Here are some of the chakra meditation techniques.

Here are The Different Chakra Meditations for Beginners.
Root chakra:
Every chakra meditation should begin with your root chakra. You shouldn’t seek to strengthen your other chakras before you’ve got a strong root chakra. This is located at the base of your spine. Sit cross legged with your back straight and take deep breaths and concentrate on this chakra, imagining all the power from the earth flowing into it. let the tip of your thumb touch the index finger. This is the mudra that maximizes the amount of energy being supplied to your root chakra. You can chant the word ‘lam’.
Sacral chakra:
This is the chakra above the first one. Its colour is orange and it is often associated with pleasure. Relax yourself with deep breaths and then imagine energy rushing up from your first chakra which is open, to this one. Place both your hands on top of each other, palms facing upwards and place them on your lap. Let the tips of the palms touch gently. Concentrate on the sacral chakra as you chant ‘vam’.
Naval chakra:
It is located just above the naval and below the chest. This chakra guides your body’s flight mechanism and other such dynamics. Its colour is yellow and it governs the organs around it. For opening this chakra you need to place your hands on your stomach. Let your fingers touch at the tips and cross your thumbs. All fingers should be pointing away from you. Keep your fingers straight and concentrate on your naval chakra as you chant ‘ram’.

Heart chakra:
The colour of the heart chakra is green. Yes, green and not red. This is the centre for understanding love, harmony and other such positive notions. It guides the heart, lungs, thymus and adrenal glands. The mudra used to open the heart chakra is fairly simple. You let the tip of your thumb touch your index finger and then place both the touching tips in front of the lower part of your breast bone. This is your right hand. Your left hand you place on your left knee with your palm facing upwards.
Throat chakra:
This is located in your throat and its colour is blue. This chakra controls your creativity and ability to heal yourself. The mudra used here involves crossing all your fingers and then letting the tips of your thumb touch as you pull them up forming a sort of makeshift sphere with your hands. Concentrate on the throat chakra as you meditate.
Third eye chakra:
The third eye chakra or the brow chakra is purple coloured. This chakra when opened takes your mind to a different astral plane. It seeks the truth that lies within deeper souls. Touch the tips of the middle fingers while keeping all the other fingers folded and touching at the phalanges. Chant ‘ksham’.
