Trouble seems to have struck Paradise as Gossip Girl Leighton Meester is suing her mother over misused money. This comes as a shocker to most of her fans, but she is definitely not the first celebrity who has accused her parent of misusing her money. Apparently, Leighton has a close relationship with her dad and brother, but not such a rock-solid relationship with her mom, Constance Meester.
Constance Meester, who is divorced from Leighton’s dad is taking care of Alexander, the actress’s brother, which has certain medical issues. It seems that Leighton has been pitching in with money on a monthly basis, money meant for her brother, but apparently the money didn’t go where they were intended and Leighton is seeking legal action against her mother for misused money.
According to People, Leighton is accusing her mother of allegedly using the $7,500 she sent every month for her brother on cosmetic procedures, among other personal expenses. A source told the magazine that: “This whole thing’s been really tough on Leighton. Her only concern has always been taking care of her brother. Leighton’s really close with her brother and her dad (her parents are divorced). Leighton’s a sweet girl; she cares about work, friends and family.”
Things don’t stop here as Leighton claims that her mom threatened to sue her for an astonishing $3 million if she didn’t fork-up more money, a monthly allowance of $10,000.
But her mom isn’t going down without a fight and filed a counter-suit which claims that Leighton had breached her financial promises, and that she has sacrificed almost everything for her daughter’s career. People states that the legal papers filed by Constance stated that: “Since Alexander receives 24 hour care from Constance, no alternative source of income is possible. As a direct result of Leighton’s breach, there are no funds to feed and care for Alexander.”
Leighton Meester’s mom is no stranger to legal problems as she has been convicted back in the 80s for helping someone to smuggle marijuana in the U.S and was also ‘slapped’ with a restraining order by a woman who claimed she was being harassed by Constance.
Do you think Leighton is right for suing her mom?
