From iconic places like Loch Ness and tourist traps like Las Vegas to places where you don’t really have much to do besides taking in the scenery, here are a few overrated vacation spots that you may want to avoid.
Loch Ness
Definitely one of the less picturesque lakes in Scotland, Loch Ness attracts fans of cryptozoology thanks to the legend of the monster that lives in it. If you’d like to immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery and culture of Scotland without kitschy aspects, then this is definitely not the best destination for your dream vacation.
Hollywood Walk of Fame
You might have to see it for yourself to believe it, but Hollywood is actually one of the worst vacation destinations. The chance of running into any A-listers is basically zero, unless you happen to wander on the Walk of Fame as a new star is being added. Be prepared to spend a lot of money to get photographed next to celebrity impersonators, because there really isn’t much else to do in Hollywood.
Gibraltar
Unless the idea of the imaginary border between two continents makes you giddy with excitement, Gibraltar might not be the best vacation spot. Once you see the rock, there isn’t much else to do, except get harassed by macaque monkeys who know that tourists have a lot of treats, which can be easily stolen.

Casablanca, Morocco
While Morocco is a popular destination for those looking to immerse themselves in North African culture, the city of Casablanca is one of the worst vacation destinations in the country. It doesn’t have any of the charm of the iconic movie, and if seeing office buildings isn’t your idea of a good time, don’t waste more than a day here.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Sin City is loud and colorful, but unless you’re really good at ignoring the misery of people who gamble away their life savings, a vacation here doesn’t really deliver. Of course, you might get to see some entertainers that only play here, but otherwise the all you can eat buffets and the boring vistas once you leave the tourist areas aren’t that entertaining.
Dubai
One of the hottest cities in the world, Dubai is a perfect destination for high-end shopping, and one of the worst vacation destinations for pretty much everything else. Can you really enjoy yourself in a place where women are treated like second class citizens and foreign construction workers die by the dozens while building opulent skyscrapers?
Temple Bar, Dublin
If you’re going to visit Dublin, stay clear of the Temple Bar ares, which is basically a huge tourist trap. Overpriced drinks in pubs that lack authenticity because they’re too focused to deliver kitsch to tourists make up most of Temple Bar, and the city has much more to offer than this neighborhood.
Niagara Falls, New York
One of the worst vacation destinations if you want to enjoy the beauty of the waterfalls, the American side falls short, even when it’s not compared to the much better Canadian side of the three Niagara Falls. If you want the full experience, you won’t get it in New York.
Bora Bora
A tropical paradise where luxury meets extreme poverty, Bora Bora is a sight to behold, but doesn’t really offer much to do. Most resorts are isolated on private islands, so spending your money here will only get you beautiful vistas, but not much in terms of nightlife or culture. If you want more than just looking at fish, make a trip to Hawaii or Asia.
Disneyland and Disneyworld
One of the worst vacation destinations in the world, Disneyland and Disneyworld are the very definition of tourist traps. Once you’re there, you can only get the overpriced food and drinks sold by the many similar establishments in the park. The rides are very short, so most of your time will be spent in line waiting to get on them.
