Spring 2020 Hairstyle Updo Trends

No season is complete without a must-have updo and those in the know will be swapping their ponytails for buns this spring. From neat, roughed-up, or glossy ballerina buns worn at the nape of the neck to slick creations secured high on the head – plenty of styles to choose from.

To achieve anything other that a teeny tiny bun, hair needs to fall to the shoulders or longer. Remember not to wash your hair prior to styling – day-old hair will have more ‘grip’ and be less flyaway that super-clean tresses.

For a subtly shiny finish, work a small amount of styling cream through hair before smoothing back with a bristle brush and twisting tightly until hair coils back on itself. Use pins to secure and don’t worry if a few small strands escape the bun – this was big news at Alberta Ferretti or Karl Lagerfeld.

Ditch the ‘bun ring’ – these styles are more about twisted or rolled finish, than a perfectly shaped dome. Imitate the effect by separating a ponytail into two, then twist one section around the other, shape into a bun and pin hair at the nape.

Styling products you need

A shine-enhancing product such as a cream – Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream or serum will give a slick finish – we recommend Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum.

To make hair more ‘workable’ and to add volume, try Garnier Fructis XXL Volume Root Booster, which can be spritzed in right at the roots for extra oomph.
