The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week showcased a lot of innovation when it comes to nail colors and nail art. Find out what colors and styles the biggest designers used on the runway to complete their collections.
Here are the biggest Spring 2020 nail trends, that are sure to make a splash next season. From simple trends to more complex nail art experiments, check out the coolest nails that showed up on the Fashion Week runways
Negative Space Manicures
The biggest trend from the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week when it comes to nails, negative space manicures were seen on the runway in all shapes and sizes.
Dion Lee, Charlotte Ronson, Delpozo, and Zimmermann experimented with leaving big part of the nail in nude, adding stripes or half moons for a very modern effect. If there’s only one new nail trend you’re willing to try, make it the negative space manicure.
Coral Nails
The most dominant color among the Spring 2020 nail trends, coral is definitely having a big moment. While Delpozo mixed coral with the negative space manicure, Nicole Miller, Veronica Beard, Alice + Olivia, and Jenny Packham had a more straight forward way of using coral, covering the entire nail. If it’s not your favorite shade, experiment with shades of peach or a more saturated red-orange.
Chic Nudes
Soft pinks and nudes were also a big trend at New York Fashion week. The nail equivalent of the no-makeup makeup, pale and nude shades were chosen to accompany collections from Proenza Schouler, Reem Acra, BCBG, and Rachel Zoe. Derek Lam went for a two-tone soft approach, using a combination of pale beige and pink.
3D Embellishments
If you’ve been avoiding 3D nail art, it’s time to get a little more daring, because it’s one of the most important Spring 2020 nail trends. While the excess from The Blonds and Libertine shows is definitely a runway only look, Lela Rose used small silver studs, and Honor glued pearls on the models’ nails. Betsey Johnson experimented with some bolder looks, especially for brides.
Damaged Polish
Nails that look like something went really wrong are also a hot look for Spring 2020. At the Rodarte show, models had only a thin line of polish at the cuticle, after the rest of the polish was removed. Prabal Gurung surprised with only half a gray nail painted over a nude, while Tracy Reese and Jay Godfrey used marbled effects.
Geometric Patterns
If you prefer a more abstract approach to your nail, you’ll be glad to know that geometric patterns are also one of the biggest Spring 2020 nail trends. Criss-crossing lines or simply creating simple zig zag patterns is definitely a hot look, as seen on the runway during shows from Angel Sanchez, Tadashi Shoji and Bibhu Mohapatra. A striping brush is the ultimate tool you’ll need for creating geometric patterns in two or more colors.
Striped Nails
When you’re looking for a simple and graphic look that’s not too messy, try stripes. They’re just one of the biggest trends from London Fashion Week for Spring 2020, they’re also making their way to nails everywhere. Nonoo opted for white nails with a single nude stripe, Kate Spade New York did the same with a black stripe over white nails, Ann Yee matched blue and white stripes with the models’ lips, and Prabal Gurung opted for wispy stripes.
White Manicure
One of the biggest Spring 2020 nail trends, white was mostly present with a single stripe at Erin Fetherston, Kate Spade New York and Nonoo, but it was also part of more experimental looks. Nanette Lepore opted for a white and pale blue gradient, while Tess Giberson also went for a blueish off-white.
