Lily Collins graces her second magazine cover for March 2020. After Seventeen, the lovely 22-year-old ‘Mirror, Mirror’ actress lands on Nylon’s upcoming issue. In the accompanying interview, Collins talks to Nylon about her parents, growing up in the English countryside, her acting debut, and trying to prove that she’s not just another celebrity kid looking for success.
“When I was initially meeting with agencies, I remember one of them asked me, ‘What makes you so special? There are tons of sons and daughters and nieces and nephews of [celebrities] – you don’t have anything! Come back and we’ll talk.’ And I was like, ‘You don’t get me at all!’ Because I’ve never come from that,” Collins says.
Chatting with Nylon, the young actress proves to be realistic and admits that a person’s character is crucial when it comes to keeping doors open and that she has to grow independently of her renowned family name.
“A lot of people’s perception is that I don’t have to work my way to get in a room because someone is always interested in the last name, but I always say that personality opens doors, but character keeps them open. Everyone can have something special to get them in, but once you’re in, it’s sort of like, ‘OK, so?’ I felt like I needed to be completely confident within myself and know what I wanted to go after and what I was passionate about before I put myself out there,” Collins told the magazine.
Lovely Lily is extremely grateful for her charmed life yet she admits that now it’s her turn to prove what she can really do. “I feel very lucky to have grown up the way I did, but now it’s kind of up to me what I do with my life,” she says in the interview with Nylon.
Even though the ‘Mirror, Mirror’ star recalls going on tour with her father, rock star Phil Collins, she admits she was too young to understand the situation. “I knew that it was dad’s job and that he sang for a living, but at that age you don’t compute what everything means,” Collins says.
Speaking about her relationship with her mom, Jill Tavelman, who is president of the Beverly Hills’ Women’s Club, Lily confesses that they are extremely close. “We’re really close, best friends. We used to go traveling together during the holidays – like, if I was learning about Africa, we’d go to Africa,” the young star told the magazine.
As for the beginnings of her career, Collins has done some theater and musicals when she first came to L.A. The beautiful actress started acting when she was just two-years-old and living in England. Her grandmother ran a stage school in London and Lily also appeared on stage. “I was never shy; I loved dressing up, telling stories, pretending to be different people with different accents,” she says in the interview with Nylon.
