On Valentine’s Day, Ralph Lauren told us a story. Oh, but a beautiful one with a happy ending. “I was inspired by the spirit of a romantic revolutionary – a timeless heroine, independent and bold, a woman who revels in her individuality and personal style,” Lauren explained. So, the famous designer amazes us once again with never-seen-before pieces that seemed to come directly from the pages of a Russian novel. Extraordinary plot and an array of impeccable silhouettes!
The first chapter of the book opens with some military-inspired and sailor-style looks. There were black sailor pants worn with gorgeous blouses with ruffled bib and Breton caps or cashmere cable-knit sweaters teamed with maxi skirts. Ah, but those outerwear goodies! It’s hard to imagine something cooler and more elegant than the impressive range of blazers, coats and jackets spotted in Ralph Lauren’s fall 2020 collection. Well, just have a nosey at those absolutely outstanding floral velvet embroidery details and braided trims adding a dramatic twist to the ensembles.
Ah, and did we mention that the designer left a box of chocolates and a billet-doux on the seat of every editor in his audience? So, Valentine’s Day, a uber-romantic collection, sweet treats? Could we ask for more? Well, the show continued with some beautifully designed ’40s velvet tea dresses and flamenco skirts worn with turtlenecks and cropped vests. Bohemian and amazingly chic, Ralph Lauren’s designs are the result of an incredible workmanship.
And oh, those romantic taffeta gowns seen at the end of the show seem to come straight from the pages of Tolstoi’s ‘Anna Karenina’! One could practically imagine the heroine in a ball room dancing with a handsome officer. Elegant and glamorous, Ralph Lauren’s fall 2020 collection is definitely one of the most beautiful spotted at New York Fashion Week this season. From slightly mannish to extremely feminine and chic, the 73-year-old designer’s line excelled in complexity, impeccable tailoring and wow-worthy details and embellishments. Oh, and the story…
