Hooray, it’s time for some playful, colorful and magical goodies! Yes, the new Tsumori Chisato spring 2020 collection invites us in the mystical world of all-things fun and chic. The famous Japanese designer, who studied fashion at the prestigious Bunka Fashion School in Tokyo and in 1977 entered the Issey Miyake design company, revealed in an interview that when designing she has herself in mind. “Yes I totally have myself in mind: I design thinking of what I would wear. I like to wear clothes depending on my feeling. For instance, if I feel like being gorgeous, I’ll wear very chic clothes. But if I’m not feeling good, I’ll wear something that makes me feel better, like bright pop colors. I like how fashion can change what you’re feeling,” Tsumori Chisato admitted.
For spring 2020, Chisato brings a super-cool line featuring an array of eye-catching colors and prints, lovely embroideries, knits, and a riot of wearable pieces such as dresses, skirts, shorts and pants.
We’re head over heels with those gorgeously printed pieces in Tsumori Chisato’s spring 2020 collection. Well, not to mention those lovely ruffles, embellishments and notice-me-now sequins! In a chat with openingceremony.us, Chisato explained the entire process of researching prints and textiles and turning the design into a real fabric. “I’m involved in the entire process, from the very beginning to the very end: I go to the Parisian textile tradeshow Première Vision for research. I draw the prints myself using watercolor or colored pens. I pick the fabrics myself and check the sample each time it has been made so that the final garments look like what I have in mind. I spend most of my time working – you know how hard Japanese people work, it’s not a myth,” the designer said.
What about starting the creative process when inspiration is running low? “I take a walk or sleep to relax and freshen my mind when I need a new inspiration,” Tsumori Chisato confessed.
