Imagine taking a journey back in time in a world of fantasy and adventures. The Russian designer’s spring 2020 couture collection was accompanied by snippets of “Rocky” and “The Wizard of Oz”! Pretty magical, isn’t it?
Speaking about the inspiration behind her line, Ulyana told Harper’s Bazaar that, “The typical Soviet childhood was one spent reading books because we didn’t have many entertainment options back then. Books were treated with so much care and respect – it was quite hard to get them. For every child, books were an opportunity to get away from the reality to the world of fantasies, adventures and fairy tales.”
“The collection is inspired by well-known novels, among them the American classics such as Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Headless Horseman etc. The muse of the collection is Scarlett O’Hara, especially when played by Vivien Leigh in the famous Hollywood adaptation,” the beautiful designer added.

It’s worthless mentioning that every piece in Ulyana Sergeenko’s spring 2020 couture collection has a theatrical flare taking our vision about fashion to a whole new dimension. Well, those silhouettes and the gorgeous vintage detailing spotted in Sergeenko’s designs are incredible. It’s practically impossible not to fall in love with the designer’s creations. Refined and chic, these beauties ooze maximum femininity and sophistication. Straw corsets, capes, shorts, blouses, skirts, and some amazing gowns that are definitely red-carpet-worthy. Ah, and those embroideries and otherworldly details!
So, if you didn’t hear about Ulyana Sergeenko until now, you’ll certainly remember her name after seeing her previous couture collection. But why couture? “We have to make couture because in Russia, we don’t have any fashion industry. It’s really difficult to organize the process of making ready-to-wear clothes, so we have to make couture clothes. We are doing everything in one building. All our embroidered buttons, all our shoes. We are trying to find people from all over the country who can make something really very special. That’s why we are couture,” the designer told ifashionstyles.com.
