The Vera Wang spring 2020 bridal collection wasn’t presented in the typical way. Rather than opting for a traditional runway show, the designer used a short film to highlight her vision for the new line. Despite the fairly dark yet oddly captivating theme that proved unusual for a wedding line and a far cry from the fall 2020 bridal line that brought a variety of pink gowns with textural rose details, the new Vera Wang wedding dresses for spring 2020 were inspired by the “lightness of being: delicate and disciplined. sensual and seductive”.
All of these characteristics were beautifully reflected in the design of the new gowns. The designer worked with delicate tulle, Chantilly lace, silk chiffon and organza to bring a romantic ethereal allure to each of the new 2020 Vera Wang wedding dresses.
Silhouette-wise, the designer focused on column dresses with minimal detailing, intricate princess and mermaid style gowns. A sense of edginess is also easily perceivable in the new Vera Wang bridal collection which includes several styles that would seriously test a bride’s comfort zone.
Examples include a sheer long sleeved floor length wedding dress with hand appliqué corded lace and a crystal grosgrain belt, a stunning strapless bra with an ivory tulle gown or a lovely dress with an unusual texture: cobweb details on top and ruched details on the bottom. Such elements beautifully demonstrated the designer’s ability to blend classiness and edginess and bring innovative elements that challenge the standards of chicness and mesmerize at first glance.
These dreamy wedding gowns were designed to cater to the needs of modern girls, who are edgier than the ones in previous generations according to the designer who also stated that these can be used more than once, as very special occasion dresses: ”Hopefully, people will realize that these dresses can be worn for anything. They just happen to be white.”
